Cape Cross Centre at Kildangan Stud
Client
Godolphin Ireland
Project Type
Conference Centre
Location
Kildangan Stud, Co. Kildare.
This project involved the reconfiguration of an existing building and the addition of a new conference centre and associated service facilities.
The new conference centre is conceived as a contemporary insertion into the old fabric of a walled garden. The building takes the form of a central auditorium box, flanked by two brick service volumes. The heavy brick skin and fibre cement cladding resonates with the garden enclosure. A large box window allows the auditorium to engage directly with the walled garden outside. The 3.6 x 8.8m 3-dimensional box "floats" out into the garden bringing the landscape inside.
The retractable seating folds into an oak clad niche, allowing the space to be used in multiple configurations. The faceted oak acoustic ceiling floats over the auditorium contrasting with the monolithic external facades.
