No. 16 Henrietta Street, Competition Entry

Project Type

Design Competition Entry

Location

Henrietta Street, Dublin City Centre

The aim of this RIAI Open Ideas Design Competition was to establish a design framework for the development of the site, to generate debate and discussion on the challenge of in-fill design in historic settings, and to discuss the future of this important street.

The methodology behind our competition entry was to engage in a participatory process with the local community, gathering their thoughts on the future of the site. The resultant proposal’s programme consists of a training centre for disappearing crafts; providing local people opportunities to learn important traditional skills such as restoration of metal work and windows, and brick repair and pointing. Hence, the proposal provides an important function to the community; the provision skills training, job opportunities and a community meeting point; and helps ensure the conservation of its neighbours and the historic fabric of the city by preserving these important skills.
