Design for Cottage at Two Mile House
Client
Private Client
Project Type
Detached House
Location
Two Mile House, Naas, Co. Kildare
The site for this house design caused many challenges; the site is very narrow, it is adjacent to a primary school and there is a protected water pump at the front of the site. The privacy of the next door neighbours, the school and a cottage, was of high importance.
Our solution was to design a home whose form would respond sensitively to the scale and finishes of the neighbouring cottages while imbuing this traditional model with a sense of contemporary and environmentally aware living. A courtyard, formed by a pitched volume to the front and a flat roofed L-shaped block to the rear, allows south and westerly light into the living spaces while ensuring privacy.
Careful consideration was giving to the boundary with the school; hedging and trees were selected to provide screening. The front entrance wall and gates were designed to enhance the water pump and its walled enclosure.
