K.A.R.E Blessington

This dynamic building, which provides local day services for adults with intellectual disabilities, takes the form of a curved spine from which the major blocks of accommodation protrude. The mono-pitched spine contains the major circulation route, service rooms and offices. The three blocks are visually and functionally distinct. The first is clad in warm stone and contains a quiet room and physio room. The second is rendered in white and contains a large training room. The final and largest block, which is timber clad and houses a day room and canteen, turns to address the garden and pedestrian access. The deep recesses in each block, which create a series of small sheltered terraces, complete the strong contemporary aesthetic of the building.
