Hospice at Drogheda Memorial Hospital
Client
Friends of St. Bridget’s Hospice and the Eastern Health Board
Project Type
Hospice and re-modelling of the Hospital
Location
Drogheda Memorial Hospital, the Curragh, Co. Kildare
We were commissioned by the Friends to design the Hospice as an extension to the existing cottage hospital known locally, and affectionately, as the Jockey Hospital. The Eastern Health Board (now part of the Health Service Executive) was also involved as the overall commissioning, briefing and funding agency.
The hospice comprises of six spacious en-suite bedrooms and a special bedroom for use by children. Most of the hospice rooms overlook the Plains of the Curragh to the front.
The remainder of the hospice is arranged around a sheltered courtyard and comprises family rooms, a Home care team base, doctor’s rooms and an Oratory.
The existing hospital was remodelled to enlarge the bedrooms to include en-suite bathrooms where possible. The Day room, dining room, kitchen and other accommodation was rearranged to reflect current requirements for a comfortable modern Geriatric and Hospice facility.
Completed in 2004.
