Higgins House Extension and Alterations

Ongoing Project: This long, narrow, and steeply sloped site presented an interesting challenge to our design team. The clients wished to construct a family flat for the use of their parents, whilst extending their existing living space. The solution was to take advantage of the slope; the family flat is cut into the hill and connected to the main house via a shared entrance lobby. The change of level between the main house and the flat provide an increased sense of privacy while maintaining views from the house over the flats sedum roof.
The composition of the new elements; the flat, two rear extensions and a shed; creates a series of courtyards. These outdoor spaces will facilitate outdoor living throughout the day and enjoy varying views across the landscape.
